Timeline:
On June 6, Plano investigators were called to investigate the theft of a 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre from a valet stand on the west side of town.
Police reviewed surveillance video and found that the suspect's vehicle, a 2025 Mercedes S63 AMG, was already on the radar of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
"We really piggy backed off of Texas DPS and Dallas PD because they were actively working this along with an FBI task force," said Jerry Minton of the Plano Police Department.
On June 11, Plano investigators, along with Texas DPS, and the FBI were on scene when Dallas swat officers executed a search warrant for two homes that they believed were linked to the theft. The homes were in Alto Garden of South Dallas.
The investigators found six high-end stolen vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce Spectre, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Cadillac Escalade-V, Maserati Levante and Audi RS7.
The value of the vehicles is believed to be close to $1.5 million.
Guns, body armor and auto theft tools were also found.
Four of the vehicles were stolen from Dallas and Grapevine.
The cars are now back with their rightful owners.
Dig deeper:
"I think all the plates were taken off, so we checked the VINs and they showed up on NCIC and TCIC as stolen vehicles," said Minton.
Plano police believe the suspects were likely creating their own paper tags. A new law banning paper tags on newly sold vehicles took effect on Tuesday. In part over concerns about criminals using them.
Suspects charged

What we know:
Three suspects, Miguel Hernandez, Salvador Hernandez and Oscar Valdez Garcia, were arrested at two different locations in Dallas and charged with theft of over $300,000.
The suspects were staying at two homes on the same street, about 10 houses apart.
Plano Police say Valdez Garcia had 15 active felony warrants. He remains in custody without bond.
Collin County court records show Valdez Garcia faces additional charges, including burglary of a habitation, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest and several theft charges.
The other two suspects have bonded out.
What we don't know:
Police say they don't know what the three were planning to do with the vehicles.
What they're saying:
"It was a combination of good investigative work, good collaboration, putting all the pieces together from separate investigations from different agencies and actually recover the five vehicles and make an arrest all at the same time," said Jerry Minton, Plano Police Department's Public Information Officer.
